Casca is a video performance that I created together with Raquel Abrantes and Luan Dias. The project is an outcome of a durational performance, divided in four acts. Where, for a period of twenty hours, I sewed a costume onto my own body with elastane scraps.
Elastane is a common material used for feminine sport-gear. I had accumulated a big collection of it with marks of wear, while growing up, tangled in between dance classes. I find it an interesting fabric to reflect on the “embodiment” of porous forms of constraint associated with femininity.
This project feels intimate in a way, since I also explored the idea that limbs can be pockets for emotional storage. Patchworking, I had the intention to transplant - sensorial memory - from different body parts, onto the surface of textille. Casca is an early work that still resonates with my practice, as it bridged performative use of fabric with prosthetic-thinking.
